NL East rivals start series in Philly

Baseball Betting Lines

05/13/2008 - (Baseball Betting) - California-born left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes looks for a third start without a loss tonight when the Atlanta Braves open a three-game series with their National League East Division rival Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

A second-round draft pick in 2003, Reyes reached the majors last season and was 2-2 with a 6.22 earned run average over 50 2/3 innings in 11 games - 10 starts.

He faced the Phillies in his lone relief appearance in 2007 and allowed three hits and a run in 3 1/3 innings.

This season, Reyes made his debut with 5 1/3 innings of four-hit, one-run ball in a 9-1 victory over Cincinnati at Turner Field on May 3.

He's started once since, allowing five hits and an earned run in 2 2/3 innings of the Braves' 5-4 defeat of San Diego.

Tonight will be Reyes' first road appearance of 2008.

Righty Kyle Kendrick can make it five starts without a loss for the Phillies.

The 23-year-old, a seventh-round pick in 2003, lost two straight starts on April 9 and 16, but has since recorded a victory and three no-decisions in four starts.

He beat Pittsburgh for the victory in that stretch, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings of an 8-4 Phillies win.

Overall, the Houston native has allowed 49 hits and 21 earned runs in 38 1/3 innings.

On Monday in Pittsburgh, Tim Hudson gave up just one unearned run as Atlanta defeated Pittsburgh, 8-1, to help the Braves split a doubleheader with the Pirates at PNC Park.

Hudson (6-2) settled down after a first inning run and wound up throwing seven innings of two-hit ball to win his third straight start. He also walked two while striking out five for the Braves, who avoided a four-game sweep.

Brian McCann hit a three-run home run while Mark Kotsay went 3-for-5 with three RBI for Atlanta, which has the best home record in the majors (14-4), but is also saddled with the worst road record (5-14).

In the first game, Freddy Sanchez doubled in three runs and Zach Duke pitched six scoreless innings for his second straight win, as Pittsburgh captured a 5-0 victory.

On Sunday in San Francisco, Steve Holm's first major league home run in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run, as the Giants edged the Phillies, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series at AT&T Park.

Adam Eaton gave up two runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts over five-plus innings. J.C. Romero (3-1) allowed two runs in the seventh to absorb the loss.

Ryan Howard had an RBI triple for the Phillies, who have dropped three of their last four games. Philadelphia was limited to only six hits in the loss.

Philadelphia split its nine matchups with the Braves last season, but the Braves won five of the nine matchups at Citizens Bank Park.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2007 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2007 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
