Luongo, Canucks top Oilers to keep pace in crowded Northwest race

Hockey Betting Lines

03/20/2008 - Edmonton, AB (Hockey Betting) - Roberto Luongo made 33 saves, as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1, at Rexall Place.

Trevor Linden, Daniel Sedin, Matt Pettinger and Taylor Pyatt all scored for the Canucks, who have not lost in regulation to Edmonton since December 4, 2006, going 9-0-3 over that span.

Vancouver remains tied with Calgary -- which edged Colorado, 2-1, on Thursday -- for the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Both clubs have 86 points and trail idle Minnesota by one point for first place in the tightly contested Northwest Division.

Tom Gilbert tallied for the Oilers, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Dwayne Roloson yielded four goals on 21 shots in defeat.

The Oilers are five points back of Colorado for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

Sedin notched his 27th goal of the season to put the Canucks on the board. Sedin ripped a shot that Roloson turned aside, but Gilbert inadvertently tucked the rebound into his own net 69 seconds into the middle stanza.

The Canucks grabbed a 2-0 lead when Pettinger fired a shot labeled for the far corner with 2:05 remaining in the second period. Pyatt extended the Canucks margin to 3-0 at the 4:58 mark of the third with his 15th goal of the season.

Edmonton trimmed the deficit to two when Gilbert's shot from the point eluded Luongo with 9:51 to go in the third.

Linden's short-handed marker restored a three-goal advantage with 6:40 left in regulation.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.

Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.

According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).

Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.

''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''

Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.

Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.

''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''

Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.

Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.

”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''

The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.
