02/19/2009 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Knicks acquired guard Larry Hughes from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for forward Tim Thomas, guard Anthony Roberson and center Jerome James on Thursday.
The Knicks also dealt forward Malik Rose to Oklahoma City in exchange for forward Chris Wilcox, who became available when Tyson Chandler failed his physical on Wednesday, nullifying a four-player trade between the Thunder and New Orleans Hornets. The Knicks also sent cash considerations to Oklahoma City.
"With these trades, we have added two talented players and strengthened our backcourt and frontline, while also not losing sight of our long term goals," Knicks president of basketball operations Donnie Walsh said. "Chris and Larry are versatile players that will have good opportunities to thrive in our system."
The 30-year-old Hughes, who Chicago acquired in a deadline-deal last season, is scheduled to make $13.6 million for the 2009-10 season.
The 11-year veteran has averaged 14.7 points for five teams in his NBA career after arriving in the league as a top-10 pick of Philadelphia after just one season in college at St. Louis.
New York will be the fourth stop in Wilcox's seven-year career. The Maryland product, who averaged 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 37 games this season for the Thunder, is a free agent after this season.
"Chris is a gifted athletic big man that brings toughness and solidifies our interior defense," New York head coach Mike D'Antoni said. "Larry fits nicely in our backcourt. He is extremely athletic and a tough defender with a solid overall game."
The oft-traveled Thomas has played for the 76ers, Bucks, Knicks, Phoenix, Clippers and a short three-game stint with the Bulls in 2005-06. The 31-year- old has played in 788 career games, averaging 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.
Roberson and James were mere fill-ins in the New York/Chicago deal, while Rose, a 13-year veteran out of Drexel, has averaged just under nine minutes per game for New York this season, putting up a career-low 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds an outing.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
