03/14/2009 - Dallas, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Nicklas Grossman netted the game-winner 2:23 into overtime, as the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at American Airlines Center.
Steve Ott scored twice and Loui Eriksson collected three assists for the Stars, who have won three of their last five games. Marty Turco turned aside 28 of the 30 shots he faced to notch his 32nd win of the season.
Mikko Koivu and Andrew Brunette tallied for the Wild, who have lost three in a row -- all beyond regulation -- and are 2-4-4 in their last 10 outings. Niklas Backstrom made 26 saves in the setback.
The American Airlines Center has become a house of horrors for Minnesota, which has dropped 10 straight (0-7-3) as the guest.
After a scoreless third period, the game went to overtime, where Grossman fired a wrister from the top of the right circle that made its way through traffic and past Backstrom to give Dallas the additional point.
It didn't take Dallas long to turn on the red light. Eriksson tried to stuff the puck in at the right side of the enemy cage and was denied his team- leading 33rd goal of the season. The Swedish left winger gathered the rebound and made a centering pass to a wide-open Ott, who buried the puck behind Backstrom exactly two minutes into the contest.
Ott, who was taken 25th overall by Dallas in 2000, found the net again 38 seconds into the second period. Minnesota was completely mesmerized by the puck and nobody accounted for Ott in front of the net, who scored on an easy tap-in. A renown agitator, Ott is enjoying a career year, having already established personal-bests in goals (15), assists (20) and points (35).
The two-goal lead evaporated later in the middle frame. Koivu lit the lamp on the power play, snapping wrister from the slot that beat a screened Turco on the glove side with 7:51 remaining. Brunette was then credited with a the tying goal on a redirection with six minutes to play.
Game Notes
Mike Ribeiro recorded two helpers for Dallas...The Stars are 19-13-4 at home this season...Minnesota is 14-17-2 on the road....The Wild finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Dallas was 0-for-3.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
